Over the past few decades, Audio equipment and Speaker design has been constantly evolving. This constant changehas both hurt and helped the performance of loudspeakers.

Plenty of high-end model speakers offer fantastic styling with impressive sonic performance. However, the mid-price segment has had more difficulty. Consumers are far more refined and educated than in years past. The manufacturers are battling with continuing a respectable product, while trying to also keep manufacturing costs down. The result
is cheaper foreign production, using OEM cabinets and drivers. Result: many different speakers that do not perform to the level of their previous models, and numerous different speaker brands that seem very similar to another speaker brand. Focal has kept its reputation as an affordable luxury, with quality construction, materials and constant refinement:
“Anything but mass-produced.” The 800V series is a high performance loudspeaker series with intelligent, modern design. The trend for loudspeaker design is to meet the goal of having a smaller, slim, narrow
cabinet, taking up less floor space. This concept has impacted bass performance in many speakers. Focal’s Powerflow system combines front and down firing ports to improve bass performance.

Most loudspeaker models are also rectangular in shape, with parallel walls on each side. This design creates standing waves, hindering audio performance. Focal’s V-shaped MDF non-parallel walls and grooved side panels break up standing waves and optimize cabinet rigidity.
